Gorilla is regarded as a "platform for low-to-budget filmmakers and short films", it incorporates links to both feature and short films reviewed, articles on the practical and theoretical sides, as well as interviews from various directors, Gorilla is founded and run by directors, rather than a team of editors, writers, moderators and administrators, emphasising their intention of getting unrecognised talent on the film at all costs:

What concurs with the magazine's aim of providing a foundation for the talent, who should get the "attention they deserve on mainstream sites", is their decision to blacken the background of the website in order to divert the audiences' attention towards what is importantly  in the middle of the page/website. The articles, akin to the structure of the New Empress, consists of an overview of themes, ideas and perceptions illustrated and the links to the genre, with a picture/screenshot of the film being the first and dominant feature of the review, followed by the writing, which is informative and the length varies on whether the review is on a feature film or short film, the latter obviously featuring writing that's more brief

Unlike blockbuster film/global film magazines like Total Film, Gorilla focuses their reviews on analysis of character portrayals, directing styles, as well as the effect the cinematography had on depiction and interpretation. Plus the lack of an inclusion of a review system, coupled with links to the films and inclusion of a comments section below suggest the desire for the audience to have their say, leave the audience to judge the content.

Total Film magazine is a direct contrast to New Empress in that it's specialised more in keeping pace with the recent developments and gossip on upcoming films, preferably blockbuster films. It's evident from the slogan:

,

that they concern themselves with the freshness of their content and what they're reviewing for the sake of making as much profit as they can, this is further supported by a section of the homepage being dedicated to the "latest movie trailers, clips and interviews" and the biggest moments, wishlists and expectations of audiences. Also, on the articles, when a particular film is being compared to other films, there are links to the reviews for those films, attempting to keep the surfer on the website as long as they can; having a lot of clicks equate to a lot of profit.

As far as the actual reviews go, there's a catchphrase/slogan placed above a picture/screenshot of the film in review; the reviews endeavors to add sentiments to the nature of the articles to interact with younger audiences, namely advocates and enthusiasts. The language is both formal and eloquent (e.g. use of a lot of adjectives, careful use of punctuation and grammar) for the adults, and aims to include a lot of information in every article: a long block of writing to not deter older audiences and advocates, who are keen to learn about the film, although the articles have a "verdict" section for younger audiences and casual fans, who all but cannot bother with reading such a lengthy piece of writing, and want a summary of the writing instead. The films are stated in italic to isolate the film from the review and analysis, and highlight their importance, next to the picture of the reviewed film is a box for
the film's details: film's release date, film genre, producer for film, main cast, age certificate. For first impressions, there's a rating out of 5 stars next to the film's title.

The New Empress magazine is an independent film magazine that has their hard-copy printed and issued on a monthly basis, it's regarded as:

,
the slogan defines the  magazine's ethos/philosophy as an independent film company: the reviews and other pieces of writing found in the magazine striving to challenge pre-conceptions , stereotypes, perceptions and illustrate realism, along with the determination to showcase and nurture talented writers, editors, journalists, columnists etc, via providing them with a platform they can expand on.

The film reviews are conducted on classic and contemporary films, especially films in 3D, as well as films released straight to DVD and some newly-released films. Moreover, New Empress has their own review system implemented for films known as "The Torches of Truth", which seems to be based around how much realism is portrayed by the film to the audience, and the latter's understanding of the film also. Through the review system, which is placed at the bottom of each article/review, each film is given a rating out of 5 "torches", the more torches, the better the film review.

The layout consists of a picture/screenshot to begin the article, with the name of the writer and date smaller in font size, which it's grey colour is discrete from the colours used for other writing (e.g. main body of writing, film title etc). The beginning of every article, namely the first letter, is in bold and greater in font size and differs in font type as well; the idea is much likened to The Sun, Metro and other newspapers that involves the first word of each story being in capital letters. In addition, the first two paragraphs of articles consistently feature an overview and development of genre ideas, themes, perceptions, they then proceed to giving a synopsis/plot summary of the film, and then give the film it's critique.

The reviews tend to be brief in order to maintain interest from younger audiences, but ensuring the language and layout is formal to not scare the older audiences away. Also, for films releasedDVD, there is a section of the article for listing and reviewing the extra content.
